Mary’s song often called “The Magnificat” is a beautiful song of praise. It serves as a reminder to each of us that God is worthy of our praise because of His nature. Regarldless of our circumstances, who He is never wavers.
Mary, having received the angelic birth announcement, has been processing what is taking place. The quality that strikes me most about her song is her humility.
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.” – Luke 2:46-49
Mary was the bride of a carpenter and the mother of the Messiah. The phrase “from now on” is key in Luke’s writings. Indicates that a significant moment has taken place in God’s plan so that “from now on” things will be different.
Mary recognizes that once she has been touched by the graciousness of God, things are different.
What a powerful reminder to us! When we have been touched by the graciousness of God, things are forever different. It is the gift of the Savior that has the power to change us… forever.
