Luke 4 provides the account of Jesus returning to his hometown of Nazareth. It as His routine to go into the local synagogue and teach. On this particular day, Jesus opens the scroll and reads from Isaiah 61:1.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19
Then He rolled up the scroll and sat down and said, “Today, this prophecy about the Messiah has been fulfilled in your hearing. I am the Messiah.”
What a moment! What a moment for them. What a moment for us.
The birth of Jesus made it possible for us to have new life.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Jesus did not come to lead us to be poor or captive or blind or oppressed spiritually. He came to set us free! He came to bring us to life.
There are moments and days when we feel dead inside. Not physically dead, but emotioally or spiritually we feel dead inside.
Here the words of Jesus whisper to you this morning, “Come Alive!”
