The birth of Jesus was not the spectacle many religious folks had waited centuries to experience.  They anticipated the Messiah to come as a conquering King to remove all bondage and oppression from His people.

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ[a] took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed[b] to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”

(which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,… Matthew 1:18-24(ESV)

If you are a parent, maybe you remember the pressure to choose the “right” name for your child.  My wife and I had actually chosen a different name for our daughter. It was a family name.  Then we decided to change it before she was born.   I’m so glad we did.  But the pressure was more than we anticipated.

The Holy Spirit came to Mary and then to Joseph and took the pressure off of them by telling them what name the Messiah would have.  Just call Him Jesus.  For He will save His people from their sins.  What a precious name!

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12 (Esv)

“Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed Him the Name which is above ever name, so that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:9-10 (Esv)

Have you called His Name?  Just call Him Jesus!
