Matthew 1:18-25 records the birth of Jesus.  The words and the description, although familiar, are nothing especially captivating.  The birth of Jesus was… simple.  There was no baby Jesus reveal party.  He didn’t have multiple monogrammed outfits.  His birth was not posted on an social media outlets for hundreds to like.  Just a carpenter and his wife in a barn giving birth to the King of Kings.

Several things strike me about this simple birth.  Jesus was born to a virgin mother, Mary.  Even in the geneology of Jesus (1:16), it was reiterated that Jesus was the biological son of Mary not Joseph.

Jesus was born to an adoptive father.  Joseph called him his son.  Legally Jesus was Joseph’s son and ties Him to the royal line of David by adoption.

Jesus came into a fallen world.  Matthew tells us that all of these things happened in a fallen world (v 21).  Sin is not something that can be cured.  There is no  homemade remedy for sin and only a divine solution will suffice.  The virgin birth of Jesus is powerful because it reveals that salvation does not come from man, but from God.  Salvation is fully the work of supernatural God, not work of natural man.  There is absolutely nothing we can do to save ourselves.

This past Sunday afternoon, our worship ministry led us to Celebrate! Christmas.  It was a powerful reminder that we need a Savior.

Here are a few songs from Sunday evening that simply share the message of Jesus!

May you experience the Joy of Jesus this Christmas!
