In the words of Tom Petty, “Waiting is the hardest part…” Now that song is in your head. You’re welcome! Waiting is hard. We don’t like to wait in line. We don’t like to wait at a traffic light. If we are honest, we don’t like to wait on the Lord.
The reality for a follower of Christ is that we have the promises of God’s Word, the Bible, but lack the patience to wait on His timing. In those moments of waiting, we are tempted to take matters into our own hands using our own methods in the timing we prefer.
We grow tired of waiting because in our minds, waiting means inactivity. And we feel like we have to do something. We want to try and help God keep His promises. Just check out how this played out in Abram’s life in Genesis 12:2, Genesis 15:2-5, and Genesis 16. We see Abram have God’s promise and then take matters into his own hands to speed up the process.
Do you feel like the Lord has you in a holding pattern? Could it be that the waiting is part of God’s plan to make His Name great through your life so He can do something only He can do?
The Lord declares, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10
Wait on Him. He is worth the wait!
